Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ’s)

At MyFamilyPlan, we’re committed to making estate and family planning as simple and stress-free as possible. Our FAQ section is designed to address your questions with clear, detailed answers, ensuring you feel confident and supported every step of the way. Whether you need help getting started or guidance on specific worksheets, we’re here to make the process easy and accessible for everyone.

1. Can I share MyFamilyPlan online?

Yes. It is suggested that you use cloud storage tools such as DropBox, OneDrive, or Google Drive so that you can share your MyFamilyPlan workbook or PDF report with those that need access to it.  For example, if you use DropBox, you will create a shared folder and include a copy of your MyFamilyPlan workbook in this folder.  You then create a link to the file and share this link with those that need it and/or include it in your post-mortem letter.  It is suggested that you share a read-only version of your workbook unless you require those with access to edit your plan.  MyFamilyPlan provides a read-only save feature.

The Personal version of MyFamilyPlan provides for using MyFamilyPlan on 3 computers – same serial number. The ability to increase this limit is available through the purchase of Additional Licenses on this website– you can add up to 9 computer devices in increments of 3. It is suggested that you limit computer access to those who need to maintain MyFamilyPlan. If an individual needs access to the data only, you can share a PDF report with these individuals or a read-only version of the workbook. The Professional version of MyFamilyPlan provides access on up to 9 computer devices – same serial number.

The Personal version of MyFamilyPlan provides for limited customization capabilities. As with all Excel workbooks, MyFamilyPlan is sensitive to changes so the personal version worksheets restrict customizations. We introduced three additional worksheets tabs that have no restrictions (protections).

  • You can add and change your drop-down lists located in the C-List tab.
  • You can introduce a personalized report title.
  • You have access to three custom worksheet tabs with no restrictions.
  • We included placeholders for comments, other information, notes, and personalized references.

MyFamilyPlan is not a subscription-based service rendering free updates. That said, we will introduce a new version of MyFamilyPlan as appropriate and will note this on the website.

Not currently. We will introduce new versions and we have yet to determine if this will include an upgrade utility/feature. In the absence of any upgrade utility/feature, you will need to re-enter your data in the new worksheet. Should we introduce a subscription offering, this will include a content-rich website that collaborates with other related communities.
Yes, but there are some limitations/challenges that affect VBA code, appearance, and features.  The most limiting is the inability to attach .PDF object. This requires Object Linking and Embedding (OLE) capabilities and this is a Windows technology not supported on Mac.  This is a very prominent and important feature to MyFamilyPlan.  The best way to remedy these challenges on the Mac is to install a Parallel Desktop (~$99) – https://www.parallels.com/blogs/excel-mac-vs-excel-windows/.  “Parallels Desktop allows you to run the Windows version of Excel right on your Mac, marrying the comprehensive functionality of Windows Excel with the smooth, intuitive Mac experience.”

Yes, but MyFamilyPlan will not work as intended as a Google Sheet document. Google Sheets is not as rich in calculations as Excel and does not run Excel macros (Visual Basic code). Google Sheets uses Google Apps Script for macros thus requiring Excel macros to be converted. This conversion feature is not currently available in MyFamilyPlan.

Yes. Upgrading from Personal to Professional is very easy. We priced the Upgrade at the current Professional retail price minus the Personal price. You will be able to use your existing MyFamilyPlan Personal workbook – the Upgrade will provide you with a licensing key that will make Professional features available to you.

When we conducted our market research, very few individuals and families expressed an interest in using MyFamilyPlan to track their medical prescriptions and other medial information.  As a result, in this release, we did not dedicate a worksheet to track this information.  However, this information can be tracked in any one of our Custom placeholder worksheets, or you can attach documents with this information in Personal Info and/or Activities & Responsibilities.  Please send us a feedback email on how best to track this information based on your needs and we will try to build it into our next release.

Yes!  Your data is stored on a Microsoft Excel document that resides on your desktop computer.  You can password protect the Microsoft document for increased security.  If you choose to keep a copy of your MyFamilyPlan Microsoft Excel document online, we suggest you use a cloud storage tool such as DropBox.

Pricing for MyFamilyPlan products is a one-time fee.  This is one of our unique advantages – once MyFamilyPlan is downloaded, you own it in perpetuity.

Yes!  We have embedded video training tutorials for every worksheet and feature of MyFamilyPlan.  Our training is located on our YouTube Channel and to access this training, you need to go to our Help/Overview section in the MyFamilyPlan workbook.

We are in the process of introducing a Service Partner Network to assist those that prefer to receive professional guidance and direction while organizing their family plan details.  Our professionals will facilitate the completion of the MyFamilyPlan workbook and where appropriate provide guidance in areas such as Life Insurance, Estate Planning, Financial and Investment Planning.  Until this Network is established, you can contact us at [email protected], or inquire directly for consultation at Estate & End-of-Life Planning & Organization.

MyFamilyPlan has been designed and developed with the USA and Canada localizations.  The constructs of MyFamilyPlan will work with any country; however, we have yet to introduce data localizations outside of North America.  With that in mind, users outside of North America have the ability to add local specific data items in the form of drop-down lists using the consolidated list (C-List) utility.  If further localization is required, users can purchase the Professional version of MyFamilyPlan that provides full customization.  We suggest that these users/buyers start with the Personal version of MyFamilyPlan and if they decide that they would be better served with greater customization capabilities, they can upgrade from Personal to Professional.  We have a product release roadmap vision that includes global localizations.  As the MyFamilyPlan user base grows, we will continue to make improvements to the product including global localizations.
